Dora Nomination

Hey Guy!!

The most exciting thing just happened!! I just got nominated for a Dora award in the General theatre category for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role for my work in Pipeline. For those that have no idea what a Dora Mavor Moore Award is canada’s version on a Tony award. Probable one of the highest honours for a theatre performer here in the city.

This has been a goal of mine for years. The theatre world has been interesting for me to navigate, even through theatre school. I really struggled to find what my voice was. What i was trying to do with my work. People like me, who come from where i do, are not often the ones you’d find in front of the camera or on stage. Alot of us don’t have the luxury to dare to dream. To great a risk of failure. And here when you fail, it just might be the end of your world.Amongst my theatre friends, I always felt like i was on the outsider looking in. Little did i know that’s just what made me so special. I want people from the hood to watch the stories i tell and also have access to the pool of emotions and self reflection that comes with it.

I knew the only way i could get here was to go as deep as i could with my art. With myself. Ask more questions, observe the world my character lives in and who he lives in it with and push and push to achieving truthfulness.

Since i heard the news i’ve been looking up to the sky and thanking my God for this gift he has given me and for the opportunity to leave an imprint of my art on this PLANET!! I am humbled. I am overjoyed, and I hope I FUCKING WINNNNNNN
